The Fair — 2024-2025
Every August in Toronto, summertime comes to a close at the Canadian National Exhibition. The evenings turn cool as minimally-paid teenagers try to drum up business from visiting families, whose hands are already full with toddlers and toys.
Other teenagers are there on first dates, harkening back to a different time— when young men heroically scored giant stuffed bears with their sporting prowess.
Under the neon lights, it could be any year, were it not for the relentless selfies and loyal Instagram boyfriends.
But despite the frenetic energy, everyone is tired. There is hidden labour; in working at the fair, and in attending it.
